Can Acupuncture Help With Anxiety and Stress?

Acupuncture is commonly used as a complementary approach for people experiencing anxiety, stress, and related physical symptoms. Research suggests acupuncture may help reduce anxiety symptoms, although evidence is still developing and individual results vary.

Treatment involves placing very thin, sterile needles at carefully selected points on the body based on your symptoms, health history, and individual needs.

Our acupuncture services may help support people experiencing:

●     General anxiety and persistent worry

●     Stress-related muscle tension, jaw clenching, or headaches

●     Racing thoughts or difficulty winding down

●     Sleep disruption tied to stress

●     Feelings of nervous tension or overwhelm

●     Burnout or emotional exhaustion

●     Stress tied to major life transitions, including new jobs, caregiving, grief, or health changes

We'll talk through a recommended treatment plan for your individual needs, and how acupuncture can be used alongside therapy, medication, or other care you're already receiving.

A Personalized Approach to Anxiety & Stress

At Latitude, we understand that anxiety and stress look different for everyone. Some people carry stress primarily in their bodies, others experience racing thoughts or difficulty shutting off their brains for the day. Many experience a combination of both.

During your first appointment, Lindsay will take the time to understand your health history, current stressors, sleep patterns, physical symptoms, medications, lifestyle, and any other care you're currently receiving.

This allows her to create an individualized acupuncture plan focused on your specific symptoms and overall health rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol.

What to Expect During Treatment

When you visit our acupuncture clinic in South Burlington, VT, your first visit begins with a comprehensive consultation to discuss your health history, current stress levels, lifestyle, and treatment goals.

Once Lindsay has a clear picture of what you're experiencing, she'll gently place very thin, sterile needles at selected points based on your individual needs. Our treatment room is quiet and dimly lit, and clients typically relax comfortably for about 20 to 30 minutes while the needles are in place.

At the end of your visit, we'll discuss recommended treatment frequency and what to be mindful of between appointments. Your treatment plan may be adjusted over time based on your symptoms, goals, and response to acupuncture.

Frequently Asked Questions About Acupuncture for Anxiety & Stress

Can acupuncture really help with anxiety?

Some research suggests acupuncture may help reduce anxiety symptoms, although evidence is still developing and results vary from person to person. Acupuncture is generally used as a complementary approach and can be incorporated alongside other appropriate mental health care.

How many sessions does it typically take to notice a difference?

This varies depending on your symptoms, how long you've been experiencing them, your overall health, and how you respond to treatment. Some patients report feeling more relaxed after their first session, while ongoing symptoms may require a series of treatments.

Is acupuncture safe to use alongside therapy or anxiety medication?

Acupuncture is commonly used alongside conventional mental health care. You should continue following the guidance of your therapist, psychiatrist, physician, or other healthcare provider and let your acupuncturist know about any medications or treatments you're receiving.
